Construction is wrapping up on The Axel, a 30-story mixed-use building at 550 Clinton Avenue on the border of Clinton Hill and Prospect HeightsBrooklyn. Designed by Morris Adjmi Architects and developed by Hope Street Capital, the 280,000-square-foot tower yields 284 apartments and 60,000 square feet of retail space in the multi-story podium. Triumph Property Group is managing leasing for the apartments and JLL is in charge of leasing the commercial space at the property, which is bound by Atlantic Avenue to the south, Clinton Avenue to the east, and Vanderbilt Avenue to the west.

At the time of our last update in February, exterior work was largely complete with some finishing touches progressing on the mechanical bulkhead, ground floor, and atop the podium. This has since concluded and the sidewalk scaffolding has begun to be removed from the perimeter of the property, revealing the completed look of the frontage.

Recent shots of the property show the staggered grid of concrete paneling and floor-to-ceiling windows in the morning sunlight.

Residential amenities at The Axel include multiple conference rooms, an executive meeting room, a gaming lounge with an adjoining outdoor terrace, dedicated yoga and pilates studios, a fitness center with a terrace, a dining and entertainment room with a terrace, a golf and sports simulator, a swimming pool atop the podium, an outdoor sundeck, a rooftop skypark designed by MPFP, and outdoor kitchens with grilling stations.

The closest subways from 550 Clinton Avenue are the A and C trains at the Clinton-Washington Avenue station to the north. Nearby to the west is the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station with access to the B, D, N, Q, R, 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains and the Long Island Railroad.

Twisting massing say it belongs to amazing design on exterior views, and the sunlight will help its grid of floor-to-ceiling windows show on prominent color. As for me, I know that any kind at all appearances, with skyscrapers progress must have beautiful designing: Thanks to Michael Young.

I really like this elegant, interesting design. I do keep wondering about these new buildings with white, precast facades and how rain and dirt will affect the pristine look.

  3. Beautiful project but I think the base should have been taller.

  4. This is what you get when you want a BIG project, but have a SMALL budget – not bad

  5. OBoy, another “twisty bendy” tower!

  6. Pretty skillfully handled by an adept architectural firm that can produce almost generic but site specific and beautifully detailed projects with a budget in mind. The base could have been a few floors higher to align with the other buildings in the neighborhood, even if it had a courtyard in the center of the full block base. Far better than many modern buildings cropping up.

  7. Tampa Bay called, they want their apartment building back.

  8. I like it.

  9. It gives me a headache.

  10. Haven’t we all seen 100+ worse?!? Yes, taller podium—I like twisty-bendy!

  11. Can someone explain who is David from Heaven ? Is it a bot?
