Governor Hochul Unveils Budget For Fiscal Year 2026

Governor Kathy Hochul has unveiled her fiscal year 2026 Executive Budget, which among state-wide initiatives, includes a number of measures to tackle New York City’s housing crisis and promote real estate development in the city. Central to the budget is the allocation of $1 billion over five years to Mayor Adams’ “City of Yes” initiative, which will fund housing construction and places an emphasis on zoning reforms to boost density. Another $760.5 million in discretionary funding has been allocated for certified Pro-Housing Communities, including $100 million for infrastructure upgrades to support new developments.

New Preliminary Renderings Revealed for Manhattan Detention Center at 124-125 White Street in Chinatown, Manhattan

A new video by construction company Tutor Perini offers the first glimpses of the Manhattan Detention Center, a proposed 16-story jail at 124-125 White Street in Chinatown, Manhattan. Led by design-build organization Gramercy Group Inc., the $3.8 billion project will stand 295 feet tall on the site of the now-demolished Manhattan Detention Complex (MDC) infamously known as “The Tombs,” and will span 1.25 million square feet. The property is bound by Walker Street to the north, the Manhattan Criminal Court Building to the south, Baxter Street to the east, and Centre Street to the west.

Phase One of Willets Point Development Rises in Willets Point, Queens

Construction has risen past the halfway mark on the first phase of the Willets Point redevelopment, a two-building residential project in Willets Point, Queens. Designed by S9Architecture and developed by the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the 12-story structures will rise from shared one-story podium and will yield 880 affordable units in one building and 220 affordable senior units in the other. The project is located on an approximately six-acre plot bound by Willets Point Boulevard to the northwest, Roosevelt Avenue to the south, and Flushing Creek to the east.

Future of Fifth Partnership Gets $152.7 Million In Funding To Transform Fifth Avenue In Midtown, Manhattan

New York City recently issued $152.7 million in funding to the Future of Fifth Partnership, an organization which aims to transform Fifth Avenue into a pedestrian-centered boulevard between Bryant Park and Central Park in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed in partnership between Sam Schwartz and Field Operations, the project plans to nearly double the width of sidewalks along Fifth Avenue to 33.5 feet each and introduce more than 230 new trees, along with approximately 20,000 square feet of planters, seating, and activation spaces.
