Materials science R&D company Radical AI has announced plans to establish its new headquarters and fully autonomous research facility at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The company plans to renovate and repurpose space in Building 20 to create a $4 million lab capable of conducting up to 100 AI-driven experiments daily. Funding for construction includes up to $2 million in performance-based tax credits through the Empire State Development (ESD) Excelsior Jobs Program.

Radical AI’s high-throughput lab will include robotics infrastructure, gas lines, upgraded safety systems, and essential R&D tools designed to accelerate materials science research by up to 370 times compared to traditional methods.

The new Brooklyn Navy Yard headquarters will support Radical AI’s mission to transform industries such as energy, transportation, infrastructure, and defense by developing and commercializing new materials. By anchoring its operations in New York City, Radical AI adds to the city’s growing network of deep-tech and advanced manufacturing firms, reinforcing NYC’s reputation as a hub for applied AI and high-impact innovation.

Transit nearby the Brooklyn Navy Yard includes the F train at the York Street station, the A and C trains at the High Street–Brooklyn Bridge station, and the B, Q, and R trains at the DeKalb Avenue station.

  1. How long do we suppose this lab will stay open?

  2. The AI hype has reached NIMBY (well, it reached many of NIMBYs posts a while ago, but that’s another matter) and incapacitated all critical faculties. A $4 million lab? So, chicken scratch. Nothing.
