Exterior work is progressing on 6414 8th Avenue, an eight-story mixed-use building in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Designed by Basic Groups Corp. and developed by Guan Yu Li, the 88-foot-tall structure will span 19,187 square feet with 11,334 square feet of community facility space and 7,853 square feet of commercial space. The project will also include a cellar and 68 enclosed parking spaces. The 8,000-square-foot property is located at the corner of 8th Avenue and 65th Street.
The reinforced concrete superstructure stands topped out and is steadily being framed with metal studs. Multiple setbacks are positioned across the main southern elevation, and a corner terrace will sit on the rear northern side of the building. Crews are in the process of installing dark gray paneling over the mostly blank western lot line wall, but it remains unclear what will enclose the remainder of the exterior, as no renderings have been released. The ground level remains obscured by a sidewalk shed and wooden fencing.
The site was formerly occupied by a gas station, as seen in the below Google Street View image before its closing in 2019. Demolition finished on the structure in 2022. The developer acquired the property site for $4.3 million in August 2023 and work on the new building began last fall.
The nearest subways from the development are the N and W trains at the 8th Avenue station to the north.
An anticipated completion date for 6414 8th Avenue was not specified, but YIMBY expects this to occur sometime in the latter half of 2026.
