Construction is nearing completion on 32 West 48th Street, a 31-story Kimpton Hotel tower in Midtown, Manhattan’s Diamond District. Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Extell, the 456-foot-tall structure will span 213,158 square feet and yield 529 guest rooms with an average scope of 316 square feet. The hotel will also include two full-service restaurants and a rooftop bar. The development is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, directly south of Rockefeller Center, with a narrow annex extending south to West 47th Street.
Nearly the entire exterior was completed since our last update in early August 2024, when the reinforced concrete superstructure was on the verge of topping out and the glass curtain wall was steadily enclosing its lower levels. This envelope has since clad the tower up to its pinnacle. Some work is still wrapping up on the base, which features dark brown paneling, as well as on the upper levels and bulkhead. The hoist also remains anchored to the blank western lot line wall, and crews are in the process of finishing the surrounding surfaces with black EIFS.
The following images show the remaining work on the rear southern elevation and the western lot line wall, where the hoist is still anchored.
The below rendering previews the main entrance along West 48th Street surrounded by pleated white stone paneling. The remainder of the podium above will feature a glass curtain wall and dark metal cladding, with lights embedded at the tops of the columns.
Guest amenities will include a fitness center, a lobby lounge, and two meeting spaces.
32 West 48th Street is slated to open at the end of this year.

Another Glass Menagerie-Beautiful
Blah
Big improvement over the horrible arcade it replaces. Although I will miss the great falafel place there!
Great photos of all the different era’s of buildings jumbled together, as only in NYC..!
Michael Young knows how to capture that sense of the city really well
Why is the base of this new hotel not set back? Was there a loophole or did the City department of building finally wake up?
No architectural masterpiece
Wow 529 rooms and black EIFS.
Great hotel location!
Wow! That’s really crammed into a tight spot.
