TF Cornerstone this week debuted Luminescence Market, the first grocery store to open within the Hunter’s Point South complex in Hunter’s Point, Queens. The store is located at the foot of 5203 Center Boulevard, a 52-story residential tower that overlooks the East River.

Before Luminescence Market, access to fresh, quality groceries in the immediate vicinity was limited. Today, the 2,950-square-foot store fills that void for residents and helps establish Hunter’s Point South as a more livable community.

The market’s name stems from “Luminescence,” a sculpture by artist Nobuho Nagasawa that sits in Hunter’s Point South Park, immediately across from the market’s new home.

“In Hunter’s Point South, we saw a really exciting opportunity to introduce a new market for local residents and visitors alike,” said Yahya Saleh, partner at Luminescence Market. “We’re proud to support this growing community and look forward to welcoming many of our neighbors in the months and years ahead.”

5203 Center Boulevard opened late last year as the first component of a dual-tower complex along with 52-41 Center Boulevard. Together, the buildings comprise 1,194 rental units including 719 permanently affordable homes, a 150-vehicle parking garage, and a 7,700-square-foot community center. According to the developer, 100 units will be reserved for low-income senior households that will have access to on-site social support provided by Selfhelp Community Services. Additional components within the masterplan include a new public park between the two towers, a school, a playground, and more than 8,900 square feet of retail space.

A 2,950sf grocery store called Luminescence sounds overpriced and undersized.

  2. “Luminescence Market”? Who comes up with this pretentious crap? It’s like a parody.
