Visible Construction Halts as One Seaport Allegedly Begins To Lean, at 161 Maiden Lane, in the Financial District

Construction at One Seaport, aka 161 Maiden Lane, has been noticeably paused for the past several months. The 60-story reinforced concrete structure topped-out back in early September, and it was unclear until recently why further progress had halted. However, new reports have revealed the 670-foot-tall building is actually leaning three inches to the north, leading to a series of legal disputes between Fortis Property Group, LLC, the developer, and Pizzarotti LLC, the current contractor. The project is being designed by Hill West Architects while Groves & Co is serving as the interior designer. Proposals to expand and redevelop the historic Empire State Dairy Building in East New York, Brooklyn are now in review by the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission. Located at 2840 Atlantic Avenue, the proposed development from Bushburg Properties includes an extensive restoration of the building’s poorly maintained façade, partial demolition of two adjacent structures, and a new 14-story residential tower that cantilevers above the Empire State Dairy Building, an official New York City landmark.
