Construction Continues on Revamped Elizabeth H. Berger Plaza in the Financial District

The new and upgraded Elizabeth H. Berger Plaza is quickly taking shape in the Financial District. The project combines two underutilized concrete plazas and merges them together to form a singular green public space that measures about two-thirds of an acre. George Vellonakis is the landscape architect of the property, which sits on what used to be a neighborhood called Little Syria. The park is named after the late Downtown Alliance president Elizabeth Berger, who died in 2013.

Developers Pursue Zoning Amendments for Affordable Housing Block at 803 Rockaway Avenue in Brownsville, Brooklyn

Proposals from the Bridge Rockaway Housing Development Fund Company reveal a new mixed-use housing development in the Brownsville section of eastern Brooklyn. The residential portion of the building would yield up to 124 affordable homes and 62 supportive housing units. The structure’s remaining footprint would house 39,000 square feet of light manufacturing space and 3,400 square feet for community facility space.­

Starling Architecture Returns With New Renderings Of A Waterfront Venue In Brooklyn Bridge Park

The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) will again review proposals to construct a new seasonal venue space on the Fulton Ferry Landing Pier in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The project was originally proposed at a hearing in April 2019, where LPC expressed concerns that the building would obstruct views of the surrounding historic waterfront and downtown Manhattan. The design team, led by Starling Architecture, was also asked to replace the white exterior elements with with brown and other dark colors.
