One after another, each remaining vacant lot along the nearly 1.5 mile-long High Line is giving rise to some of the most architecturally innovative design across the Five Boroughs. Each of the new buildings has their own identity and aesthetics, jostling to be the next spectacle in West Chelsea. One long-awaited and highly anticipated project is The Fitzroy, at 514 West 24th Street, designed by Roman and Williams and developed by a partnership between JDS Development and Largo Investments. Now, the scaffolding has come down, revealing what hopefully won’t be a once-in-a-lifetime revival of Art Deco stylings, built for contemporary sensibilities.
The High Line
GDS Development has acquired an additional 7,410 square feet of air rights for their planned condominium development at 500 West 25th Street, in West Chelsea. The air rights were purchased from Brookfield and Related. Valued at $685 per square foot, GDS’ additional investment totals about $5.1 million.
YIMBY last reported on 10 Hudson Yards – the 52-story, 1.8-million square-foot office tower at the corner of Tenth Avenue and West 30th Street – last November when the structure officially topped out. Now, new photos taken by Tectonic show that glass installation is nearing completion and close to reaching the structure’s 895-foot-tall pinnacle. Earlier this month, office space in the building was roughly 100 percent leased, as Real Estate Weekly reported. Coach Inc. will occupy floors nine through 23 and part of 24, VaynerMedia will take the rest of floors 24 and 25, Intersection and Sidewalk Labs will take floor 26 and part of floor 27, L’Oréal USA will occupy the rest of 27 and floors 28 through 36, the Boston Consulting Group is leasing floors 42 through 47, and finally SAP is taking floors 48 through 52. Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group are the developers and Kohn Pedersen Fox is the design architect. Occupancy is expected in the spring.
YIMBY previously reported that construction began on the through-block project spanning from 527 West 27th Street to 520 West 28th Street back in January, and we followed up with a partial reveal from the construction documents later that month. Now we have the full renderings for the building, dubbed Jardim, which is being designed by Isay Weinfeld. Centaur Properties and Greyscale Development Group are developing the project, and Pizzarotti IBC is the builder.
Last month, YIMBY checked up on progress at both Related’s 520 West 28th Street and Centaur Properties’s 527 West 27th Street (which also spans through to 530 West 28th Street). A rendering of the latter project’s garage…
