When it comes to building big, The Moinian Group is one of New York City’s most notable developers. With Sky now the largest residential building in the Five Boroughs, YIMBY sat down with the firm’s CEO, Joseph Moinian, to discuss their recent work, what’s coming next, and whether the cavern under 41st Street and 11th Avenue will ever yield a subway station, as was originally intended. Permits have been filed by the Moinian Group for a major new 37-story mixed-use tower to rise at 3 Platt Street, in the Financial District of Manhattan. The building will also have the address of 110 John Street. The site is five blocks away from the Fulton Street subway station entrance, serviced by the A, C, J, Z, 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains.
The blocks of Midtown West feature some of the largest new developments of any neighborhood in the Five Boroughs, with the Moinian Group’s Sky containing the most apartments of any tower in the city, with over 1,100 in all. But just a few blocks to the northeast, the developer is nearing completion on a slightly smaller 164-unit building at 572 Eleventh Avenue, which will officially be named Oskar, and has now launched its teaser website.
Renderings from FXFOWLE in recent months have pictured plans for The Moinian Group’s 3 Hudson Boulevard both with and without a spire. But now, plans for the project have seen a complete redesign, and ground has officially been broken on the 53-story and 940-foot-tall tower.
With activity making headway at several of the supertalls that will eventually comprise Hudson Yards, it should come as no surprise that progress is also occurring at The Moinian Group’s 3 Hudson Boulevard, where FX Fowle has designed a building that will rise approximately 1,050 feet to its rooftop. While Moinian has said plans for the tower are still being finalized, additional renderings of the spired version have again appeared thanks to its architect, and construction at the site also appears to have begun.
