A new, mixed-use, affordable housing project for low-income seniors has debuted in the Morrisania section of The Bronx. Located at 1074 Washington Avenue, the Trinity-Reverend William James Senior Apartments is constructed on land formerly occupied by a vacant United Methodist church and today comprises a collection of 154 deeply affordable apartments, a 5,400-square-foot social services facility on the ground floor, and recreational amenity spaces for future occupants.

Located at 800 Flatbush Avenue in Flatbush, Brooklyn, the development team includes BRP Companies, Urbane, the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

Developers and New York City officials recently joined to celebrate the first phase of completion at Linden Terrace, a 548-unit affordable housing complex in East New York, Brooklyn. Located at 2858 Linden Boulevard, the building comprises 234 affordable homes. The teams also celebrated the commencement of construction for the second and third buildings, which will eventually comprise 159 and 155 additional affordable apartments.

Located at the intersection of Glenmore Avenue and Mother Gaston Boulevard, the lot is near the Sutter Avenue subway station, serviced by the L train. The HELP ONE project will yield a mix of supportive housing and low-income apartments, and is among Brooklyn’s largest affordable housing projects announced this year.

35 Commercial Street Climbs Above Street Level in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Construction is rising above street level on 35 Commercial Street, a 22-story residential tower in Greenpoint, Brooklyn‘s Greenpoint Landing mega-complex. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Park Tower Group along with Greenpoint Landing Associates, New York City’s Housing Preservation & Development (HPD), and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the 344,463-square-foot structure will yield 373 affordable housing units. Construction began last year after the acquisition of $170 million in construction financing. Monadnock Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located between the intersection of Bell Slip to the west and Commercial and Clay Streets to the south.

Caton Flats, a new 14-story affordable housing property in Brooklyn, is now the new home of the Flatbush Central Caribbean Marketplace. Located at 2123 Caton Avenue in Flatbush, the marketplace formerly existed as Flatbush Caton Market and was a neighborhood staple for more than 20 years.

HPD Reveals River Commons Affordable Housing Property in Concourse, The Bronx

The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) has revealed the first of two new affordable housing properties in the southwest corner of The Bronx. Located in Concourse near the intersection of River Avenue and East 168th Street, Site A will eventually debut as River Commons and will comprise 278 affordable apartments.
