Excavation is progressing at 545 Coney Island Avenue, the site of a seven-story mixed-use building in Kensington, Brooklyn. Designed by Daniel Condatore and developed by Zelig Weiss of Riverside Developers under 545 Coney Island LLC, the 70-foot-tall structure will span 51,026 square feet and yield 74 rental units with an average scope of 640 square feet. The project will also include 3,627 square feet of commercial space, a cellar, and 37 enclosed parking spaces. The property is located between Webster Avenue and Newkirk Avenue.

Work has accelerated since our last update in April 2022, when permits had just been filed and the assemblage was still occupied by a two-story warehouse, a one-story auto repair garage, and a convenience store. Demolition finished in 2024, and crews are now excavating below grade across the 0.44-acre site.

The dig is doubling as a state-supervised environmental cleanup. The property, identified in state filings as the Former New City Link Auto Repair site, entered New York’s Brownfield Cleanup Program in 2024, and the proposed remedy calls for excavation and off-site disposal of soil to a depth of roughly 15 feet below grade, along with treatment of petroleum-related contamination in groundwater and a vapor-mitigation system beneath the future building.
The nearest subways from the development are the F and G trains at the Church Avenue station and the Q train at the Beverley Road station.
