Updated renderings have been revealed for Anagram Gowanus, a 20-story residential building under construction at 450 Union Street in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Designed by SO-IL and developed by Tankhouse and McArthur Holdings, the 203,000-square-foot structure will 158 rental apartments in studio- to three-bedroom layouts, as well as 22,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. A portion of the residential inventory will be reserved for affordable housing. Magnusson Architecture & Planning is the architect of record for the project, which is located at the intersection of Union and Bond Streets.
The new renderings, provided by Alden Studios, offer a more detailed preview of the upcoming building’s cascading massing and brick façade than the previously released set. The first image above depicts the full structure from the east, showcasing the canal-facing elevation and its distinctive through-building cutout on the third through seventh floors. Terraces are shown bridging this divide, providing shaded outdoor space for select units.
The following image provides a closer look at the same side of the building, highlighting the main entrance and jagged canopy over the second-floor terrace, which will be lined with hanging vegetation. The cutout is also visible above, along with additional terraces atop the building’s many setbacks. The final rendering previews the retail frontage along the broad southern elevation along Union Street, as well as the stacked bond pattern of the tan brick façade.
Twenty-five percent of the rental units will come with private outdoor space, and nearly every apartment will have a Juliet balcony and dual-corner exposure.
The development at 450 Union Street will be the fifth Anagram-branded residential project in New York City, joining counterparts in NoMad, Columbus Circle, Gramercy, and Turtle Bay. Global Holdings contributed a $33 million equity investment to the project in a deal arranged by JLL Capital Markets.
“Our fifth Anagram property brings Global’s unique approach to New York living to Brooklyn for the first time, building on the success of Anagram Columbus Circle and the recent launch of Anagram Turtle Bay,” said Eyal Ofer, chairman of Global Holdings. “We’re collaborating with like-minded partners to deliver not just best-in-class housing, but a long-term community asset that meets the lifestyle expectations of today’s sophisticated renter.”
Amenities will include a fitness center, coworking spaces, a children’s playroom, landscaped outdoor areas, and multiple rooftop terraces. There will also be 13,000 square feet of above-grade parking and approximately 22,000 square feet of commercial and retail space, including areas designated for community and art studio use. The property will also feature a 5,700-square-foot waterfront esplanade along the Gowanus Canal.
The closest subways from the property include the F an G trains at the Carroll Street station to the west, and the R train at the Union Street station a few blocks to the east.
Construction is still in the early stages, with excavation having just begun at the time of our last update in late May. Anagram Gowanus’ anticipated completion date is slated for May 2027, as noted on site.

I love the shape of this building, it is reminiscent of an art-deco building with all the setbacks and protrusions but it’s more modern. It’s clear to see some Asian influence from Anagram. But while the greenish grey tile will look interesting, similar tile/brick buildings in Taiwan have had many maintenance issues.
Unrelated, but just a tip – looks like construction has restarted at 29-00 Queens Blvd in LIC since your last update showing the renderings. I pass by their most days and have seen workers and more equipment.
Wonderful work! Outshines even RAMA’S Manhattan offerings…
(RAMSA)..sorry
A refreshing change from the usual stuff.
