Construction is progressing on 440 West 36th Street, where a six-story structure is being expanded into an 11-story residential building in Hudson Yards, Manhattan. Designed by Pinnacle Engineering for Chun-Hsiung Huang of the Yards Realty LLC, the project will raise the structure’s height from 68 to 116 feet and revise its residential inventory from 11 units to nine larger homes. New commercial space will also be added to the ground floor. The property features more than 8,000 square feet of buildable air rights and is located on a narrow interior lot between Tenth and Dyer Avenues.

The existing six-story structure currently stands covered in scaffolding and black netting as crews work to reconfigure its interiors and add reinforcements for the expansion. The additional floors have yet to begin formation.

No renderings have been revealed for the project apart from the below elevation diagram, which offers a rough indication of the work to come. The ground-floor frontage will be replaced with expansive floor-to-ceiling windows and the existing façade will be revised and simplified. Above the cornice line, the new stories will feature contrasting arched windows surrounded by a darker system of paneling. A tall bulkhead and staircase will cap the structure.

440 West 36th Street’s anticipated completion date is slated for winter 2026, as noted on site.

  1. The slender building next door looks deserted.

  2. please someone tear down that hideous “Hudson River hotel” i.e. future homeless shelter.

I like this project of adding to existing walk up..

    lets see how it develops

  3. I like the arches but they don’t go with the existing building.
