Permits have been filed to expand a three-story structure into a five-story residential building at 199 North 5th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Located between Driggs Avenue and Roebling Street, the lot is near the Bedford Avenue subway station, served by the L train. Idan Shitrit of Investmates is listed as the owner behind the applications.

The proposed 55-foot-tall development will yield 11,350 square feet designated for residential space. The building will have 13 residences, most likely rentals based on the average unit scope of 873 square feet. The masonry-based structure will also have a cellar and 39-foot-long rear yard.

Asher Hershkowitz is listed as the architect of record.

Demolition permits will likely not be needed as the project calls for a vertical and horizontal expansion. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

Let’s hope this is done right. Please keep the new structure well behind the historic building.

    No more “New Beginnings”?

  3. I’m afraid with a new bill being passed through supported by democrats will lead to demolitions of churches…even landmarked. Historic buildings need to be preserved or we will have nothing left

  4. developer – please check out projects that incorporated the old houses of worship , like the one on 16th between 6th and 7th ave in Manhattan. plenty of others in Brooklyn. It will be worth it to at the very least, keep the charming facade. Buyers/renters love authenticity.
