A new rendering has been revealed for the redesign of 26 North Street, a forthcoming 14-story residential building in Bayonne, New Jersey. Designed by MHS Architecture and developed by The L Group and Cali Futures, LLC, the 174-foot-tall structure will span 569,115 square feet and yield 500 rental units in studio to two-bedroom layouts with an average scope of 749 square feet, as well as 6,929 square feet of ground-floor retail space, 16,369 square feet of indoor-outdoor amenities, and enclosed parking for 455 vehicles and 266 bicycles. The nearly 2-acre property is bound by North Street to the north, Route 440 to the south, and a one-story commercial building to the east.

The main rendering above depicts 26 North Street with three interconnected rectangular volumes above a three-story podium. The façade will be composed of light gray aluminum framing floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as contrasting brown brick on the ground floor and the second and third stories on the eastern end of the building. Numerous balconies protrude from the western face and southern elevation of the broad eastern volume, and a landscaped terrace will sit atop the podium at the center.

Below is a former iteration for the development, which called for two 22-story towers rising from a five story podium. The project was first approved by the Bayonne Planning Board in 2015 as a four-story building dubbed “The Lofts.”

The residential program in the current scheme consists of 145 studios, 235 one-bedrooms, and 120 two-bedrooms. Apartments will occupy levels four through 14, with amenities on the roof level.

The development is located directly west of the elevated 8th Street Hudson-Bergen Light Rail station.

A completion date for 26 North Street has yet to be announced.

For a better future with a light gray aluminum frame, even in 2040 the structure will still be modern: Thanks.
