Construction is moving quickly at 626 Summit Avenue, the site of a new 29-story mixed-use tower in Jersey City. Designed by MVMK Architects for an anonymous development company, the building will contain 209 rental units, two retail suites, and office space.

Located at Summit Avenue and Route 139, the development site is located at the northern edge of the Journal Square Redevelopment area and occupies four neighboring parcels.

As the building rises, the façade appears to unzip above the seventh floor to reveal a series of stacked cantilevered balconies and terraces. As shown in the most recent set of renderings, the building envelope appears to be constructed of gray and white metal paneling with an asymmetrical punched window system arranged in vertical bands.

Available apartments will range from one- to four-bedrooms and amenity spaces will include a fitness center, a roof deck, a tenant lounge, and bicycle docks.

Tenants will also have access to a private stairway that descends into “The Bergen Arches,” an abandoned stretch of railway tracks that will be transformed into a public park. Project plans also include the construction of a public plaza with benches overlooking the sunken park.

Construction has reached the fourth floor and could wrap up by 2025.

  1. No site photos? Hard to get an idea of the surrounding area. We definitely know it’s not surrounded by nothing but trees (LOL).

  2. The inclusion of this without actual photos seems odd.

  3. We all know New Jersey is “The Garden State”…

I do want to like this…

  5. That Bergan Arches illustration sums up what the New York area does best: use potentially crucial transit infrastructure for strolling.

When I see this, I keep thinking of someone’s zipper bursting open.

Hope they build this one just like the rendering, could be outstanding . Are there no structures around it?

  8. Would look significantly better without the white paneling scheme.
