Façade installation nears completion on The Walt Disney Company’s new headquarters, a 22-story building at Four Hudson Square in Hudson Square, Manhattan. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and developed by Silverstein Properties, the 338-foot-tall structure will yield 1.2 million square feet of offices, film and production studios, and ground-floor retail. Lendlease is the general contractor for the property, which is alternatively addressed as 137 Varick Street and occupies a full city block bound by Vandam Street to the north, Spring Street to the south, Varick Street to the east, and Hudson Street to the west.

The green terracotta and glass façade has made significant strides since our last update in August and now covers nearly the entirety of the steel-framed superstructure. The construction crane has been dismantled from the property, and all that remains to be enclosed are a few sections on the ground floor and the gaps where the construction elevators remain attached.

Bronze-colored panels with thin vertical louvres adorn the walls around the center of each elevation, adding contrast in color and texture. This same finish will also be applied to sections of the mechanical bulkheads.

Exterior renderings show new tree-lined sidewalks, retail frontage with green stone paneling and oversized windows, canopies over each of the four entrances, and landscaped terraces atop the setbacks.

  1. Disney should move more and more divisions out of hostile Florida and move them to New York.

    • Agreed.

Even better, Disney should start looking to “move” DisneyWorld, EPCOT, etc out of Florida. Just the mere thought of that would be awesome.

      • I imagine any other state would welcome a new multi-billion dollar theme park, with a massive amount of tax revenue if Disney relocates!

Add the thousands of jobs, new housing, hotels/restaurants and expanded infrastructure… 💲💲💲

Just seeing Mickey flashing a gloved middle finger at Florida and DESANDA**, gives me a happy feeling! 🤗

        • Dumb comment.

          • DGold, not as dumb, backwards, and deadly as having a book-banning, anti-LGBTQ, misogynistic, and “woke” man who thinks drag queens are more of a threat to children and society than an unhinged domestic reformist shooting people thanks to him loosening gun laws. He’s a crock of sh*t

      • Disney World already IS EPCOT etc. (the etc. being Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and Magic Kindgom), plus Disney Springs, the two water parks and hotels.

    • That would be cool and a safe bet for the company. Screw evil DeSantis with his dangerous politics and hatred 🖕

    • Florida hostile? Really? And New York isn’t? Really?

I’m sorry, but is the argument here that New York politicians are somehow more friendly to big business and don’t partake in ideological policy targeting?

      • No—the argument is that the Republican governor of Florida is acting in a very un-Republican manner by interfering in the affairs of a private business, AND choosing to get into a brawl with one of the most beloved of all American institutions—The Mouse! As for Presidential aspirations—good luck, Guv!

    • Joe, cheers to that. And saves us northeastern folks a three hour plane ride hahaha!

  2. That façade is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

  3. One of the better new developments on this block.

  4. This building is gorgeous. I hope more major projects employ terra cotta cladding. It’s a beautiful materials and it’s done extraordinarily well here.

  5. Beautiful! The facade gives me McGraw Hill Building vibes.

  6. Its nice but its also too brutal and rigorous needs to be broken down more its far too repetitive especially for a company like disney should have need a bit more playful

    • Yes, as I mentioned previously, a giant set of “mouse ears” on the rooftop… possibly lit up at night?! 🤗🐭

Back and forth with the construction of small, medium and large building sizes. I have never been bored. Make a difference by using beautiful wrapping materials, and even more beautiful is the reflection of the surface. Including the construction located that is neat every square meter: Thanks to Michael Young.

  8. As an Architect, I agree with the gentleman David O.
    beautiful Location for a building.

  9. Any way of finding out what retail is going in the ground floor? Neighborhood resident praying for a Whole Foods….
