Danny Meyer’s latest culinary outpost will debut this week at SUMMIT, the observatory venue atop One Vanderbilt in Midtown, Manhattan. Known as APRÈS, the café and bar is perched 1,100 feet above ground and includes an indoor lounge and an outdoor terrace with sweeping views of the city skyline.

Designed by Snøhetta, APRÈS exhibits a Nordic design with minimal adornments, clean lines and subtle curves, a mix of natural materials with white paneling, and recessed LED lighting throughout.

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt and APRÈS are set to open on Thursday, October 21. This follows the debut of Le Pavillion, an 11,000-square-foot restaurant on the tower’s second floor.

“In addition to the exciting artistic works at The Summit, Snøhetta has created an elegant interior design that naturally guides visitors through an uplifting experience,” said Craig Dykers, founding partner Architect of Snøhetta. “From the spacious and calm entrance hall to the dramatic lobbies above, Snøhetta has designed a continuous yet evolving adventure. This culminates with the landscape design of one of the world’s highest gardens at the top of The Summit. Each space is sensitively considered to ensure the optimum experience within a changing dynamic as one is transported from the ground to the sky and back.”

Created by executive chef of Union Square Events and James Beard Award winner, Patrick Connolly, APRÈS’ menu will include a rotating selection of New York classics, mostly small bites for visitors to easily snack and mingle on the go. The venue’s beverage program was curated by mixologist Nicholas Bennett who designed the cocktails to feel classic with a modern twist.

“It’s been a perfect pairing to work with Danny and the Union Square Events team on creating a bespoke culinary program that perfectly complements the special and thrilling destination we’ve created for SUMMIT One Vanderbilt,” said Marc Holliday, chairman and CEO of SL Green, the developer responsible for One Vanderbilt. “APRÈS will offer a peak moment for those making their way through our curated experience and a welcomed respite for those visitors looking to enjoy a fabulous new outdoor bar venue.”
