219 Livingston Street’s Scaffolding Disassembly Continues in Downtown Brooklyn

Scaffolding continues to be dismantled from 291 Livingston Street, revealing the dark façade of the 22-story hotel tower in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by Gene Kaufman Architect and developed by Aview Equities and Hello Living, the 189-foot-tall structure will yield 100 hotel rooms and a ground-floor beer garden. The property is located between Nevins Street to the east, Grove Place to the north, and Hanover Place to the west, and was formerly occupied by a two-story commercial structure that was demolished in 2017.

Since our last update in February, the scaffolding has come down from the narrow southern elevation, revealing its window grid and balconies with white rounded columns.

Compared to the rendering, the building features a much more toned-down version of the dazzle-style artwork on the L-shaped southwestern corner, using shades of gray instead of the high-contrast black and white design. There also seems to be slightly less surface area than what was originally depicted, especially on the wing that extends to the west.

Only the back northern wall remains covered, with the exterior hoist still attached. This side will feature balconies, while the eastern side will be left mostly blank.

The nearest subways include the 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains at the Nevins Street station, the B, Q, and R trains at the DeKalb Avenue station, and the A, C, and G trains at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets station.

No revised completion date for 291 Livingston Street has been announced, though sometime in the first half of 2022 is possible.

  1. OMG
    Gene Kaufman has invaded Brooklyn
    God forbid.
BTW this is meant to be a homeless shelter as soon as it’s finished

  2. Not nearly as bad as it could have been. I think a determined U-boat captain could even get a torpedo on that wall now.

  3. The Zebra has arrived

  4. Probably looks better after binging on coke, marijuana and a few hits of acid?! 🤤🤣

  5. My eyes are spinning.

  6. This building gives me a headache
