Façade work is progressing on the topped-out superstructure of “Parcel G,” a 34-story tower in Hunters Point South, Queens. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Gotham Organization, the building will yield 443 residential units, of which a portion will be dedicated to affordable housing, as well as a lower-level community facility for Flux Factory and for kayak rentals. The site is located by the intersection of 2nd Street and 56th Avenue.

Photographs show the current progress on the red brick and floor-to-ceiling glass façade, which is now about three-fourths of the way to the parapet. Residents will have uninterrupted views looking up and down the East River, and of the Midtown and Lower Manhattan skyline, as well as abundant direct daylight exposure year round. Parcel G sits on a hill overlooking numerous winding walkways, boardwalks, 1.5 acres of tidal marshes acting as a buffer and barrier against storm surges and flooding, and lush diverse landscaping that’s part of Hunters Point South Park Extension.

Meanwhile, rising to the north of the property is Parcel F, which is also designed by Handel Architects. Construction is several floors above its podium and should quickly ascend over the neighborhood throughout the rest of 2021 and be completed in 2023. See yesterday’s article for more information and photographs tracking the progress of the taller architecturally identical sibling.

Overall, Parcels G and F are just a small part of a massive ongoing transformation of Hunters Point South. Other nearby projects that are extending the skyline include ODA‘s 52-03 Center Boulevard and 52-41 Center Boulevard, which will provide an additional 1,194 units to the area. The closest subway is the 7 train at the Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue station, while the Hunters Point South ferry terminal is a short walk to the north.

YIMBY predicts Parcel G to finish toward the end of this year.
