Construction began last week on Williamsbridge Gardens, a two-building affordable housing development in the Williamsbridge neighborhood of The Bronx. Developed by B&B Urban and L+M Development Partners and designed by MHG Architects, the pair of eight-story buildings located at 722 East 212th Street and 711 East 211th Street will bring 170 units of affordable housing to low- and moderate-income families.
The developers secured $78.05 million in financing to begin construction, as reported by the Commercial Observer. The majority of financing came from tax-exempt bonds provided by the New York State Housing Finance Agency’s Homes and Community Renewal program, as well as the Department of Housing Preservation.
Residences will include a mix of 30 studios, 55 one-bedrooms, 57 two-bedrooms, and 27 three-bedrooms. Amenities include a large interior courtyard, community room, exercise room, shared laundry rooms, a computer room, children’s library, rooftop solar panels, and a live-in super.
Nonprofit Center for Urban Community Services will provide supportive services for the 85 units that have been allocated to the formerly homeless.
Construction is expected to take two years.
