The Pestana NY East Hotel at 23 East 39th Street celebrated its grand opening earlier this week. Designed by Gene Kaufman Architect, the building stands 27 stories above Midtown, Manhattan. The 40,000 square foot structure contains 96 guest rooms, a fitness center, a bar, and an outdoor patio. Select guest suites offer balconies with clear views of the Empire State Building. At the ground floor, the lobby of includes a fireplace and a small lounge for breakfast and casual dining.

“With the introduction of new hoteliers to New York City, the design of amenities and room configurations continues to evolve in new and exciting ways that ultimately gives travelers more choices in where they stay,” said Gene Kaufman, founder and principal of Gene Kaufman Architect.

Pestana Hotel Group, a global hotelier based in Lisbon, Portugal, purchased the vacant site in 2017 for $16 million, and secured a 99-year ground lease. The Pestana NY East Hotel is the group’s second New York Hotel following the debut of Pestana Park Avenue.
