The Hard Rock Hotel is now above street level at 159 West 48th Street in Times Square. The 225,000-square-foot, 445-room hotel is designed by Berg + Moss Architects and is being developed by Extell and Hard Rock International.

Photos show the floor slabs and columns beginning formation next to the construction crane. The high sidewalk scaffolding and construction fence obscure the ground floor, above which a dense battery of temporary supports buttress the reinforced concrete as it settles. The hotel is rising next to a small public plaza that features the Mini Plexiglass Waterfall Tunnel. Scaffolding has been temporarily installed over the park until the completion of the Hard Rock Hotel.

The structure’s relatively ordered stack of floor plates includes minor setbacks throughout. This uniformity should allow construction to proceed quickly. However, crews will likely be challenged with the delivery of materials to the site, as the much of the surrounding area is pedestrianized.

Amenities for guests include an underground speakeasy, and a proposed outdoor rooftop lounge and bar that would be among the highest in the city and provide southern views of the skyline and Times Square.

A completion date for 159 West 48th Street hasn’t been announced, though it could conceivably be finished in late 2021 or early 2022.
