Excavation and work on the foundation walls is underway at 323 East 61st Street on the Upper East Side, where a new six-story community facility is set to rise. Located a couple blocks away from the Queensboro Bridge, the building will stand 74 feet tall and yield 61,740 square feet, with 49,750 square feet dedicated to community facilities. The structure is designed by Daniel Goldner Architects, while LaSalle Investment Management and William Macklowe Company are the owners. Memorial Sloan Kettering is leasing all the space.

The walls on the northern perimeter are currently being formed and readied for the next concrete pour, while multiple excavators are finishing digging deeper below street level.

The rendering posted on the fence shows a glass façade with a what appears to be a pattern of white striping. A mix of opaque square and rectangular panels of different sizes are depicted surrounding the glass on the main elevation, as well as on the walls of what could be a mechanical or egress extension on the western end of the structure. These tiles are arranged in an irregular, asymmetrical pattern.

The 4, 5, 6, N, Q, R, and W trains at the Lexington Avenue 59th Street subway station are a short walk from the site.

A completion date for 323 East 61st Street is anticipated for next summer.

  1. I don’t want to protest like a crowd in Hong Kong, I’m not ready to see violence by being illegal in public battles. So I sat to read your details quietly, with the bright light from the lamp. (Thanks to Michael Young)
