220 Central Park South And Its $250 Million Quadruplex Penthouse Nearly Finished Atop Billionaire’s Row

As the 13th-tallest skyscraper under construction in New York City, Robert A. M. Stern’s 220 Central Park South was the third new major residential tower to rise along Billionaire’s Row, just after One57 and 432 Park Avenue. Enclosed in Alabama Silver Shadow limestone, the upcoming 950-foot building yields 70 floors of some of the most prime real estate in New York City, overlooking Central Park and Midtown. Vornado Realty Trust is in charge of the development, while SLCE Architects is the architect of record. The project sellout is expected to be around $3.4 billion.

Sales Launch For Extell’s Central Park Tower at 217 West 57th Street, in Midtown, Manhattan

Currently nearing the 1,100-foot elevation mark above West 57th Street, Central Park Tower is well on its way to a 1,550-foot pinnacle above the Midtown skyline and Billionaire’s Row. Now, the Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill designed tower at 217 West 57th Street has officially launched sales of the 179 units that will begin on the 32nd floor, and conclude with a triplex penthouse spanning over 17,000 square feet. Sales are being handled by Extell‘s in-house team.

Today, YIMBY has an update on Midtown’s new terracotta masterpiece, for which sales are starting, and the latest photographs show that construction has officially reached supertall heights. YIMBY’s 2018 Mid-Year Pipeline Report Shows Surge In New Development Filings With YTD Unit Count Increasing 67.5% Over 2017

While YIMBY normally covers aggregate new building applications on an annual basis, this year, we have released our first mid-year pipeline report, and the results are surprisingly positive. After two years of declining applications following the frenzies of 2014 and 2015, the preliminary numbers for 2018 appear to be signaling a major uptick in activity. Year-over-year filings of new residential units have grown substantially, rising from 9,134 in the first six months of 2017, to 15,305 in 2018 — an increase of 67.5%.

YIMBY Scopes 53 West 53rd Street’s Perspectives Above the Midtown Plateau

For the second day of 2018’s Skyline Week, YIMBY has photos from the top of 53 West 53^rd Street, aka 53W53, which has been talked about for longer than any other skyscraper currently under construction in New York City. The supertall has been eleven years and a controversial 200-foot height reduction in the making. The tower will yield condominiums, galleries, and a restaurant, and its kinetic dark façade matches the vibrant energy of the Midtown streets below, with crisscrossing diagrid lines careening from the base up toward the spearheaded peak. The structure is on its way to a 1,050-foot pinnacle, which will handily pierce the surrounding plateau of 700 to 800-foot rooftops.
