A new rendering has been revealed for 81 Elliott Avenue, a proposed four-story co-op building in Yonkers, Westchester County. Designed by Duo Dickinson Architects and developed by the Housing Action Council, the project will yield nine units in one- to four-bedroom layouts. The 0.32-acre lot is located mid-block between Morris and Post Streets.

The rendering looks at the front elevation of the building, previewing a rectangular massing adorned with four dark brown brick columns capped with gables. Between, a beige façade will surround a grid of large rectangular windows with white frames. A pair of garden planters will line the sidewalk next to the main entrance.

The property was formerly occupied by a four-story co-op building constructed in 1915, seen in the below Google Street View image. The structure was heavily damaged in a December 2021 fire and was subsequently razed.

About one-third of the original co-op owners are expected to move to the new building upon completion, with the inventory limited to households earning no more than 65 percent of the area median income (AMI). Prices are expected to range from approximately $223,918 to $235,314. The apartments will consist of one two-bedroom, five three-bedrooms, and three four-bedroom units. The county has recommended the incorporation of sustainable building technology, such as solar rooftop panels.

Financing will be sourced from a mix of public and private corporations and programs, including New York State Homes and Community Renewal’s Affordable Home Ownership Program, the New York State Housing Trust Fund Corporation, private construction financing from the Community Preservation Corporation, and a Housing Flex Fund grant from Westchester County.

The Yonkers Planning Board will review the proposal for 81 Elliott Avenue on May 13.

  1. In this case should have just rebuilt the much better looking original with modern construction standards.

  2. Well that’s depressing.

    • It’s a empty lot now. Building burned down 5 years ago. All the apartments in that building use to have a formal dining room, minimum of 3 very large bedrooms, kitchen living room with lots of windows and your own in apartment laundry room. All the buildings on that street have enormous apts. They were built in a different era.

Is that supposed to resemble the wonderful previous building?

  4. Why? Is it that much less expensive than renovating the much better building that is there??? Those white designs at the top are insulting

  5. Agree. Replacement is insanity
