Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a statewide investment to create or preserve nearly 3,000 affordable, energy-efficient homes across New York State, with over $600 million allocated to six projects located in New York City. The funding is part of a broader $1 billion award from New York State Homes and Community Renewal, which includes $560 million in tax-exempt bonds and $466 million in subsidy funding. These six city-based developments are among 15 projects statewide advancing under the Governor’s five-year, $25 billion Housing Plan to develop or preserve 100,000 affordable homes.
In The Bronx, $23 million will support the rehabilitation of Kittay House, a 295-unit senior housing development in Fordham originally built in 1969. The project includes upgrades to shared facilities such as a kitchen, dining hall, recreation rooms, and a doctor’s office. Brooklyn will see funding for two developments: Alafia Phase 2 in East New York will receive $326 million to build two 14-story mixed-use buildings with 634 residential units and more than 12,000 square feet of commercial space, including 47 supportive housing units; and Emerson Davis Apartments in Clinton Hill, a $40 million 12-story building with 103 affordable and supportive units.
In Queens, $142 million has been allocated for the construction of Edgemere Commons, an 18-story, mixed-use development in Far Rockaway with 244 apartments, nearly 4,000 square feet of commercial space, and community amenities such as a daycare facility. Manhattan will receive $63 million to rehabilitate the historic Westbeth Artist Housing in the West Village, which contains 385 live-work units for artists and 73 commercial spaces. Also in Manhattan, the Jericho House will undergo a $9 million rehabilitation and expansion, increasing capacity to 56 units exclusively for formerly homeless individuals.
“I applaud this significant investment in affordable housing, including this critical project right here in Yonkers, as part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring safe, modern, and affordable homes across every region of New York State,” said New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. “We look forward to continuing our collaborative work with Governor Hochul and the Assembly to build on this progress and create even greater housing opportunities for all New Yorkers.”

the governor needs to kick start the Atlantic yards/Pacific park development which is way over due, start using that monies for truly affordable housing in better off neighborhoods, and neighborhoods that is becoming more gentrified unaffordable, MAKE NYC A TRUYL AFFORDABLE AND SAFE PLACE TO LIVE
More performative high-cost projects at union scale.
Haven’t seen union (English speaking) construction workers in years. They have OSHA stickers on their hardhats and I doubt if they actually took those classes. A union construction friend told me he knows they use the hardhats of union guys.
What happened to affordable housing in Manhattan for retired seniors and others on a fixed income?
The affordable housing being built are located in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx but most people can’t afford to rent them.
Your meaning of affordable does not include people who are low or on a fixed income.
Do Better Governor Hochul! Seniors who are not rich needs decent, safe places to live also.
Hochul needs to go. NY State went from bad to ugly. We are praying that Hochul loses and the Republican Governor candidate wins. Hochul has destroyed NY State in less than the 4 years she’s been in office. She’s a disgrace. I never voted for her and will never vote for her. I know many people here in Dutches County that have complained of her ridiculous ideations. Keep her out of Dutchess county one man said to me. Closing prisons, not complying with ICE and the amount of trash on the streets and woods have gotten out of hand. Hochul does nothing for the environment here and only cares about illegals, not NY State residents and legal American citizens. She does nothing for veterans in NY state either. She’s not even qualified as a human being. Get her out! For the love of God!!!
How can I get a apartment I put in lottery for housing
That’s all New York City,New York State is completely separate entity from New York CITY upstate gets shafted and gets nothing from this government
Alfalfa?
How many more apartment buildings do we need?? Small businesses are what built this city and made neighborhoods what they were. Affordable is a funny word in this city, unless you’re the usual people getting Section 8 housing and other benefits.
👍Yes,Retired Seniors, low income need help also, We matter!!!!!
