Excavation is progressing at 590 Union Street, the site of an eight-story mixed-use building in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Designed by StudiosC Architecture and developed by Trifecta Equities, the 85-foot-tall structure will yield 24 rental units with an average scope of 588 square feet. The project will also include 12,121 square feet of commercial space and a rear yard. Permits were filed by the owner through Artem Korsun of R & O Engineering. The property is located between 3rd and 4th Avenues.

A team of excavators is currently working below grade, and steel retaining plates have been inserted to support the perimeter during the unearthing process.

The preliminary elevation diagram from the construction board previews a straightforward rectangular massing rising to a setback at the eighth floor, followed by a roof deck and a bulkhead. The fenestration will be composed of rectangular windows with rounded upper corners, and a stack of four loggia terraces on the eastern side of the building on floors four through seven. The commercial frontage will feature broad windows beside the residential entrance.

The site was formerly occupied by a one-story auto shop and a surface-level parking lot, as seen in the below Google Street View image before the start of demolition. Trifecta Equities purchased the property for $4.5 million.

The nearest subways from the ground-up development are the R and W trains at the Union Street station along 4th Avenue.

590 Union Street’s anticipated completion date is slated for spring 2027 , as noted on site.
