LPC Reviewing Proposal For New Building At 164 Hancock Street In Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn

A proposal to construct a new building at 164 Hancock Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, was reviewed on August 12 by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC). Led by architect Ana Maria Torres, the application is for the construction of a residential development on a site which currently consists of a non-contributing garage structure and a paved lot, fronting Hancock Street.

If approved, the new building will stand four stories tall and feature a rear yard space. Designs showcase a brownstone façade, traditional fenestration, and a rooftop bulkhead set back from the primary elevation. Notably, materials emphasize the design’s intention to integrate with the surrounding historic row houses in terms of scale, material, and window rhythm.

Drawings and renderings include landscaping elements within the rear yard and updates to site access points. The proposed depth and height of the new structure are consistent with adjacent properties at 162 and 168 Hancock Street.

Transit nearby 164 Hancock Street includes the Nostrand Avenue station (served by the A and C trains) and the Franklin Avenue station (served by the C and S trains) both within walking distance.
