Excavation is progressing at 14 White Street, the site of a seven-story residential building in Lower Manhattan’s Tribeca East Historic District. Designed by NAVA and DXA Studios and developed by 14 White Street Property Owner LLC, the 30,000-square-foot structure will yield ten condominium units ranging from 1,200-square-foot two-bedroom homes to four-bedroom layouts spanning 4,000 square feet, as well as 3,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and cellar. Central is the general contractor for the property, which is bound by White Street to the south and Sixth Avenue to the east.

The asphalt surface of the former parking lot has been fully unearthed since our last update in December, when work was just getting underway on the triangular site. Recent photos show a lone excavator working below street level alongside a piling machine, which has begun to drive steel columns into the earth in preparation for the formation of the foundations. Work should continue below grade for the remainder of the year, followed by the rise of the new superstructure sometime in early 2024.

Renderings of 14 White Street depict an earth-toned façade composed of angular bronze panels adorned with an etched diamond pattern framing a grid of floor-to-ceiling windows. The design offers a modern take on the neighborhood’s cast iron past, with a palette that blends naturally with the surrounding context.

14 White Street will house two units per level on floors two through five, with full-floor units on the sixth and seventh stories. One of the upper units will be a penthouse with private outdoor space. Amenities include a communal roof terrace. The structure is also being engineered to ultra-efficient passive building standards.

An anticipated completion date of March 2024 is posted on site, though YIMBY expects the project to wrap up sometime closer to the end of next year.

  1. Point too sharp!

  2. Comment too dull! IS the site. Is the proper response.

  3. Nicely scaled infill. Like the way the stanchions narrow toward the 6th/White point — if I’m reading that right.

  4. Looks like a nice addition to the “Jengahood”! 🤣

A demolition mistake finally mended. It’s a good design, if you like the world to watch you at home.

  6. This empty triangle, and the one on the block to the south, with their graffitied walls, have always driven me nuts. Now both will be filled in, and, may I add, attractively. Hooray!
