Construction is slow going at Hotel Indigo, which broke ground in 2017 and is still on the rise in Manhattan’s Financial District. However, new renderings from The Rinaldi Group reveal a hyper-modern, vibrant facade, a series of stacked outdoor areas for guests, and a yellow-bottomed venue space near the apex of the building.

The new Hotel Indigo is located at 120 Water Street and will eventually comprise 52,000 square feet. Designed by architect Gene Kaufman, the 28-story property will include 128 guestrooms, a cellar-level fitness center, a ground floor restaurant, and a 25th floor venue.

Atlas Development anticipates the property to open sometime in 2020. Fortuna Realty Group will serve as hotel management.

  1. How bad the structure is not. (Thanks to YIMBY)

  2. This man is a blight on the city.

This actually isn’t terrible. Did Gene get some new help?

  4. I love it!

  5. Blend right in with the homeless living in the Holiday Inn next door (this is out solution for homelessness?!) and the scaffolding wrapping around the empty building on the corner.

Not saying it’s a bad building, just noting the reality of that corner.

  6. Has there been a paradigm shift with Gene?

  7. @David in Bushwick:
Hehe, I was thinking the same thing… Outside consultant maybe?

The first thing I do when looking at his designs are to see when his trademark (offensive) setback happens, the worst of them being at ground level or disrupting the urban facade wall. This one is admirably high!

  8. Wow, that thing is ugly. Tired of seeing these cheaply constructed pop up hotels squeezed in to every nook and cranny in the city.

  9. Guess the future looks a lot lot 1986
