Over the course of 2018, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development increasingly shifted focus to the development of sustainable, environmentally-conscious housing for low-income New Yorkers. Today, YIMBY has the first look at one such three-story, multi-unit housing development at 190 Essex Street, in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn.

Designed by DeLaCour, Ferrara & Church Architects, the building will replace a vacant lot to include 15 units dedicated to low income families and individuals.

The new building will be constructed under the 2015 Enterprise Green Communities program requirements. As part of the certification, the structure will support modernized fire alarm and suppression systems, variable refrigerant flow (VRF) technology for both heating and cooling systems, and a dedicated hot water boiler.
