For the second time, permits have been filed for a seven-story charter school in The Bronx’s Mott Haven, by the Academic Leadership Charter School. The ALCS currently has two locations in the borough, one for kindergarten through fourth grade, and the other for fifth grade through eighth. They plan to relocate both groups into the new building, reuniting the schools under one roof. The new site is three blocks away from the 3rd Avenue and 138th Street Station, serviced by the 6 train, and ten blocks away from the 3rd Avenue  & 149th street station, serviced by the 2 and 5 trains. The school will be across the street from Willis playground, a public park.

The new, 100 foot-tall structure will yield 60,000 square feet, allowing room for a variety of facilities. The building will include a gymnasium, cafeteria, and thirty-one classrooms spread across floors four through seven. A play area will be made on the rooftop. The development will provide 100 parking spaces for teachers and parents.

Connecticut-based Peter Gisolfi Associates will be responsible for the design.

The site is currently being used as a parking lot. An estimated completion date has not been announced.
