A few years ago, a piece of the Palisades along River Road in North Bergen, New Jersey was cut back to prepare for new development. From south to north, a Starbucks Coffee, Bank of America, and Walgreens are already open. Just beyond them, a new residential development is now only months away from completion.
The progress can be seen via a recent update by Curbed NY, though an additional photo has been posted here on YIMBY.
Dubbed The Duchess, it is located at 7601 River Road, almost right across from HackensackUMC Palisades (formerly Palisades Medical Center). Only a relatively short stretch of River Road is in North Bergen. It is bordered by Edgewater to the north and Guttenberg, which is even smaller, to the south. Philadelphia-based Post Brothers is the developer. The firm tapped Hoboken-based Vijay Kale Architects, PC to design the building’s exterior. Chelsea-based Paris Forino has been tasked with designing the interiors.
The essentially three-sectioned building stands 12 stories above ground. So, it doesn’t top the cliffs. It does, however, come very close to them, horizontally. Its three sections share a common rear, with the two third floor spaces in between them set up to house some of the buildings amenities.
Those amenities include a dog park, fitness center, yoga studio, spin studio, in-house spa with sauna and steam rooms, massage rooms, coffee/juice bar, heated saltwater pool, piano and wine lounge, library, and private cabanas.
There will be 320 residences.
Completion is slated for late fall, but it could be done by October. The spot is served primarily by NJ Transit bus route 158, whose terminuses are the Mediterranean West residential tower in Fort Lee and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. Other lines serve it during the rush hours.
