The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) will soon review proposals to construct a new nine-story residential building on the campus of St. James Church Fordham in The Bronx. The scope of work also includes restoration of the church’s aging façade and modifications to the building’s internal organization.
In the wake of Superstorm Sandy in 2012 and the realization of rising sea levels, YIMBY, in 2013 and 2014, wrote on “Seaport City,” which was the Bloomberg administration’s ambitious proposal to mitigate flood waters in Lower Manhattan. But the city’s Economic Development Corporation is moving forward with another, less expensive plan, once dubbed the Big U and later the Dryline. The latest news concerns transforming the current shoreline from Harrison Street, in TriBeCa, to Montgomery Street, on the Lower East Side. This section would measure roughly 3.5 miles, and last week the city selected AECOM, who leads ONE Architecture and Bjarke Ingles Group (BIG), and Dewberry to officially design and engineer it, Crain’s reports.
The city’s Department of Design and Construction tasked the Bjarke Ingels Group to design a new three-story station for New York City Police Department’s 40th Precinct, and now the Architect’s Newspaper has the project’s reveal. The new station will be located at 561-585 St. Ann’s Avenue, currently a vacant parcel on the corner of East 149th Street, in Mott Haven. The 59-foot-tall facility will measure 43,500 square feet and will feature a central indoor atrium, a green roof, and a community meeting room. The project will also include the redesign of a triangular parking lot immediately to the north. Starr Whitehouse Landscape Architects is leading the site design work. Completion is expected in 2020.
