Demolition is moving along at 544-550 Union Street, the site of a five-story residential building in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Developed by Christopher Merone under the 548-550 Union Realty LLC, the structure will yield eight units. The 10,800-square-foot site consists of a series of interior lots between 3rd Avenue to the east and Nevins Street to the west. An architect and further details on the residential units have yet to be officially announced.
Two three-story buildings at 544-546 Union Street have already been razed to street level, with some scattered rubble still strewn about their footprints. The two neighboring buildings to the east are fenced off as crews work to gut their interiors. Based on their modest scope, demolition should likely conclude before the end of summer.

No finalized renderings have been revealed for the project apart from the below elevation diagram. This drawing previews a straightforward rectangular massing rising to a bulkhead on the eastern end of the flat roof. The main entrance will be located on the eastern side of the ground floor, and the fenestration will be composed of large windows and glass doors leading to balconies.

Ariel Property Advisors arranged the sale of 544-550 Union Street for $9 million in July 2025, encompassing a total building square footage of 21,600 square feet.
The nearest subways from the development site are the R and W trains at the Union Street station along 4th Avenue.
544-550 Union Street’s anticipated completion date is slated for summer 2027, as noted on site.
