Visuals were recently revealed for 351 Powers Avenue, an approved eight-story, 100-percent-affordable housing building in Mott Haven, The Bronx. Designed by STAT Architecture, the structure is planned to yield 84 income-restricted homes in studio- to three-bedroom layouts, with 30 set aside for the formerly homeless. The development will be engineered to Passive House standards and will also include a ground-floor training center, a theater, and indoor-outdoor recreation space. The building will be constructed using local labor on a former city-owned parking lot by the intersection of Powers Avenue and East 142nd Street.

The project will be the first to take advantage of the new 90-day Expedited Land Use Review Procedure (ELURP), which aims to expedite housing and climate resiliency projects by shortening the public review process.

The above aerial rendering looks at the southeastern elevation facing Powers Avenue. The building will have a symmetrical massing with setbacks on the ends of the upper levels, creating space for landscaped terraces. The light gray brick façade incorporates a staggered series of angled walls from the third through eighth floors, each featuring two balconies. The ground story appears to be clad in a rougher hewn brick surrounding the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The below diagrams detail the floor plan of the ground floor and outdoor space.

The nearest subway from the ground-up development is the 6 train at the Cypress Avenue station to the south.

Public approval was granted on February 19. A construction timeline has yet to be announced.
