The affordable housing lottery has launched for The East, a 24-story residential building at 644 East 14th Street in East Village, Manhattan. Designed by Fischer + Makooi Architects and developed by Madison Realty Capital, the structure yields 196 residences. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 60 units for residents at 70 to 130 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $68,023 to $227,500.

Residential amenities include bike storage lockers, gym, rooftop terrace, sundeck with barbecue grills and prep kitchen, coworking space, a shared laundry room, common area Wi-Fi, storage lockers, package lockers, and an on-site resident manager. Units are equipped with washers and dryers, air conditioning, energy-efficient appliances, intercoms, and name-brand kitchen appliances, countertops, and finishes. Tenants are responsible for electricity, including stove, heat, and hot water.

At 70 percent of the AMI, there are 20 studios with a monthly rent of $1,777 for incomes ranging from $68,023 to $90,720.

At 130 percent of the AMI, there are three studios with a monthly rent of $3,478 for incomes ranging from $126,343 to $168,480; 24 one-bedrooms with a monthly rent of $3,674 for incomes ranging from $135,360 to $189,540; and 13 two-bedrooms with a monthly rent of $4,315 for incomes ranging from $162,446 to $227,500.

Prospective renters must meet income and household size requirements to apply for these apartments. Applications must be postmarked or submitted online no later than December 16, 2025.

  1. These are some very nice apartments. Looking at the last photo I was reminded that the massive development of LIC and Brooklyn began with the green tower near Newtown Creek. When Citigroup built that building, people were perplexed and look at it now! Queens and Brooklyn have been on a meteoric rise ever since. Not that they weren’t always important but developers have realized they can build with much greater density and develop additional CBDs. But I have to admit, I miss a part of that era of NYC. Jackson Heights was some serious fun.
