On Saturday, four concrete pumps descended on a web of rebar to conduct the first pour for the foundation of One Vanderbilt, a 58-story, 1.7-million-square-foot commercial tower under construction adjacent to Grand Central Terminal in Midtown East. The progress can be seen thanks to photos posted to the YIMBY Forums. The latest building permits have the 1,401-foot-tall tower measuring 1,755,814 square feet.

There will be retail space across the ground and second floors, as well as the 56th through 58th floors, the latter of which will be an observation deck up 1,020 feet above street level. Office space will occupy the third through 55th floors. TD Bank has already signed on to 200,000 square feet of space in the tower. SL Green Realty Corporation is the developer and Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates is the architect. Completion is expected in 2020.
