Macerich Company, the owner of Green Acres Mall, in Valley Stream, recently broke ground on a two-story, 335,000 square-foot retail complex adjacent to their mall at 750 Sunrise Highway, one block east of the Queens border. According to LI Herald, the shopping center is being dubbed Green Acres Commons, and Ashley Furniture HomeStore, BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick’s Sporting Goods, as well as other tenants, are expected to lease spaces when it opens in the fall of 2016.

The new building is currently 75% reserved, and an old cinema was recently demolished to make way for the project. A 38-unit two-family-building development is also planned a few blocks to the south, in Rosedale.
