Construction Update: 200 East 39th Street

200 East 39th StreetExcavation begins at 200 East 39th Street

Excavation has begun at 200 East 39th Street, which is a mixed-use residential project that will rise 18 stories. The building is being developed by SK Development, CB Developers, and Ironstate Development. Per SK Development’s website – which also has additional renderings – the tower was designed by Rawlings Architects, and DOB permits indicate a final height of 213 feet.

No specific information on the tower’s facade has been released, but the renderings look semi-promising; at the very least, 200 East 39th won’t be a monotonous glass box. It is only 18 stories, so the development will have no impact on the skyline, and Murray Hill could definitely use more new construction – much of the neighborhood, especially along Second and Third Avenues, is quite run-down. The first floor of the tower will hold retail space, while the residential portion of the building will hold 91 residences.

200 East 39th Street is currently a gaping pit, but given the small scope of the project, excavation should soon be complete – and construction should also be rapid. No completion date has been formally announced, but on-site signage indicates that the development will be finished by March of 2015.
