Construction Update: 400 Park Avenue South

400 Park Avenue South is finally going vertical, and the tower is now at its second floor. The Portzamparc-designed buildingto have both condominiums and rental apartmentswill eventually reach 476 feet in height. The below photos were submitted by YIMBY reader BigGlass, who also sent in a sneak peek of the building’s claddingthe glass will help cement the skyscraper as a neighborhood landmark.

Since the last update, the most obvious change at 400 Park Avenue South is the rise of the superstructure. With work now progressing above ground, the pace of construction seems to be picking upboth because progress is now visible, and because floors below grade typically have the most complex layouts.

Adjacent to 400 Park Avenue South is the Piet Boon-designed Huys, at 404 Park Avenue South. The building remains shrouded in its decorative netting, but that should be coming off relatively soon, as Corcoran’s page on the building shows the tower slated for occupancy in early 2014.
