Harlem’s Victoria Theater Slated for Major Redevelopment

Harlem is about to see a major new project break ground, as the Victoria Theater redevelopment is slated to begin construction in January of 2013. The project, at 235 West 125tn Street, will contain a 26-story tower and 360,000 square feet of new space.

Both residential and hotel space will be a part of the new project, with 229 apartments at 210 hotel rooms. Two new theaters will also call the project home, making the development a crucial component to Harlem’s artistic scene.
Development has been lagging in Harlem since the 2008 financial crisis, but the latest plans confirm that the neighborhood is on the right track once more. Long associated with urban blight, Harlem–and especially Central Harlem–has seen a renaissance, as young professionals have been relocating to the neighborhood due to sky-high prices in the rest of Manhattan.
Completion of the project is slated for 2015.
