Construction is rising on 550 Tenth Avenue, a 47-story residential skyscraper in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Gotham Organization and Goldman Sachs Asset Management JV, the 520-foot-tall structure will yield 430,000 square feet and 453 rental units, with 137 reserved for affordable housing, as well as 9,000 square feet of retail space, over 20,000 square feet of amenities, and 26,764 square feet of administrative office space for Covenant House. GO Covenant LLC is the owner and Monadnock Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located along Tenth Avenue between West 40th and 41st Streets.

The reinforced concrete superstructure has continued to ascend steadily since our last update in February, when construction had begun to go vertical. Since then, crews have reached the top of the seven-story podium and are now preparing to begin work on the main tower above. The skyscraper’s repetitive stack of floor plates should ease the construction process and possibly enable the building to top out before the end of the year.

The renderings show 550 Tenth Avenue clad in a grid of thick bronze-hued paneling framing floor-to-ceiling glass in two-story intervals, stretching to three- and five-story groups just below the parapet. Breaks in the panel grid on the northwestern corner and southern and western elevations add additional character to the building’s appearance.

Amenities will include an upper-level lounge with an adjacent outdoor sky deck with views of the Empire State Building, Hudson Yards, and sunsets over the Hudson River. The podium will have additional amenity spaces for social, leisure, and health and fitness activities.

The closest subways from the property are the A, C, and E trains at the 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal subway station, which offers an underground transfer to the 42nd Street-Times Square station servicing the 1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q, R, W, and Shuttle train to Grand Central Station. Also nearby is the 7 train at the 34th Street-Hudson Yards station to the south. 550 Tenth Avenue is anticipated to be completed in June 2025, as noted on site.

  1. I love how the renderings always show all kinds of parks and trees by a building. In reality it is on busy streets, all concrete, a block from the port authority.

  2. Love this design’

Looks great… Should be a nice addition to the area.

  4. Too bad the residents will probably have to wait another twenty years before they can stroll downstairs and catch a 7 train. At least according to documents access for the future station is buikt into the NW corner of the foundation.

  5. The ‘tower crane’ here is a beautiful object.
