Tishman Speyer has purchased the vast majority of Edgemere Commons, a forthcoming affordable housing complex in Edgemere, Queens. The development site is located on the former Peninsula Hospital complex in the Rockaways, which comprises 9.34 acres.
Permits have been filed for a 22-story mixed-use building at 1637 First Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Located between East 85th and East 86th Streets along First Avenue in Yorkville, the lot is one block from the 86th Street subway station, serviced by the Q train. Extell Development is listed as the owner behind the applications.
Work is nearing completion on Anish Kapoor’s reflective “bean” sculpture at the base of 56 Leonard Street, an 831-foot-tall residential skyscraper in Tribeca. The last curved sections of the amorphous work of art have finally been assembled, closing off the missing outer section facing the corner of Leonard and Church Streets. 56 Leonard Street was designed by Herzog & de Meuron and Hill West Architects and stands as one of the tallest structures in Lower Manhattan, with a distinguished massing of irregular cantilevering floors. Anish Kapoor is also known for designing Chicago’s chrome steel-plated Cloud Gate and the ArcelorMittal Orbit from the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
The Durst Organization has launched leasing for Sven, a new 762-foot-tall residential tower in Long Island City. The property is located at 29-37 41st Avenue and is currently the second-tallest completed structure in Queens.
