La Guardia Airport’s $8 Billion Overhaul Making Major Headway

Things are looking up for North America’s worst airport. Construction is moving along at the LaGuardia Airport renovation and expansion in East Elmhurst, Queens. The $8 billion overhaul of the transport hub hopes to alleviate the airport of its notorious struggle with constant delays and cancellations, a source of national embarrassment and numerous dubious honors, like being ranked the 14th worst airport in the world. LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP) is behind the project.

New Art Galleries Rising at 505-511 West 27th Street, West Chelsea

Located in the northern section of Chelsea, in between Zaha Hadid’s first residential building and the High Line stretching over West 27th Street, a series of new art galleries designed by Studio MDA founder Markus Dochantschi are nearing completion. The project will yield nearly 15,000 square feet of interior gallery space split between two single-story buildings. Dubbed “The High Line Nine,” the structures are currently under construction, and are being developed by Related.

Five blocks to the north is the 65th Street subway station, serviced by the R trains. Five blocks west is the Woodside train station, serviced by all twelve LIRR lines. United Realty is listed as responsible for the development.

Wood-Framed Construction Progressing at 80 Ainslie Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn

The redevelopment of Williamsburg from industrial wasteland to residential enclave has been a slow and relentless process, and this is particularly true around Metropolitan and Union Avenues. Permits were first filed for construction of 80 Ainslie Street in June of 2015, and now, the building’s timber frame is coming into view. Syndicate Architecture is responsible for the design.
