PENN 2’s Re-Cladding Underway at Two Penn Plaza in Midtown, Manhattan

Work has begun on the re-cladding of PENN 2, a 31-story commercial building at Two Penn Plaza in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by MdeAS Architects and developed by Vornado Realty Trust, the project involves the replacement of the 53-year-old structure’s dark façade with a much lighter glass enclosure. The 412-foot-tall, 1.61-million-square-foot tower was originally designed by Charles Luckman Associates and stands along Seventh Avenue between West 31st and 33rd Streets, immediately to the east of Madison Square Garden. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Brookfield Properties, the project involves interior renovations and the complete re-cladding of the 1957 office tower originally designed by Carson & Lundin. The 1.25 million-square-foot property is located along Fifth Avenue between West 52nd and 53rd Streets and was formerly addressed as 666 Fifth Avenue.

Topped-Out 450 Eleventh Avenue Begins Glass Curtain Wall Installation in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

Construction has topped out on 450 Eleventh Avenue, a 51-story Aloft Hotel in Hudson Yards. Designed by DSM Design Group and developed by Marx Development Group, the 642-foot-tall skyscraper will yield 379 guest rooms as well as a business center, a ballroom, and a fourth-floor restaurant and bar with an outdoor terrace. Atria Builders LLC is the general contractor for the Midtown, Manhattan property, which is located at the corner of West 37th Street and Eleventh Avenue, directly across from the Jacob K. Javits Center. Construction is expected to cost around $368 million.

Construction is rising at 317-319 West 35th Street, a 25-story hotel in Midtown’s Garment District. Designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by Wei Hong Hu under the H Hotel LLC, the 249-foot-tall reinforced concrete structure was last reported to span 59,250 square feet with 166 hotel rooms. The property will also contain 3,399 square feet of commercial space and feature a cellar, sub-cellar, and a basement. Crosscity Construction Corporation is the general contractor for the development, which is located between Eighth and Ninth Avenues.
