NYCHA, Affordable Housing Groups, and Private Developers Forge $271M Deal to Upgrade Public Housing Throughout Manhattan

The NYCHA has revealed plans to significantly renovate and repair its aging portfolio of affordable housing properties in a deal valued at $271 million. Referred to as PACT, or Permanent Affordability Commitment Together, the consortium of public and private entities has committed to renovations on 16 individual buildings including 1,718 apartments throughout Manhattan.

Recent renderings offer a first look at the Catholic Charities Loreto Apartments, an affordable housing development under construction at 1677 St. Marks Avenue in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Designed by RKTB Architects and developed by Catholic Charities Brooklyn & Queens, the project will contain 135 apartments reserved for low-income seniors. The development will replace the Our Lady of Loreto Church, which was demolished in 2017.

The affordable housing lottery is now open for Van Dyke II, a 12-story mixed-use development at 405 Dumont Avenue in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Trinity Financial in partnership with the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the Housing Development Corporation, the Housing Authority, the 205,500-square-foot will yield a total 188 units in a mix of studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 125 apartments for residents at 30 to 60 percent of the area median income, ranging in eligible income from $15,086 to $84,600.
