50 West Street’s Pedestrian Improvements Nearing Completion

Among the new residential towers in Lower Manhattan, 50 West Street has been one of the longest in the making, with plans for the Helmut Jahn-designed project initially conceived prior to the Great Recession. YIMBY most recently featured renderings of an adjacent pedestrian bridge in August of 2016, as well as an update on the almost-complete tower in February of this year. While the interiors of the skyscraper have since been finished, progress continues on the adjacent ground-level work, including the West Thames Street Pedestrian Bridge and a public plaza, both of which will improve the area’s walkability tremendously.

New development is an infrequent occurrence in the East 20s, but from 121 East 22nd Street through to 122 East 23rd Street, Toll Brothers City Living is almost finished on their latest project, designed by the Office of Metropolitan Architecture. Tectonic stopped by the site for an update, and the latest progress shots show that the smaller of the two buildings is almost ready for its opening day.

200 Greenwich Street May Finally Have an Anchor Tenant

The World Trade Center’s reconstruction has been in the works for over fifteen years, with multiple iterations of 200 Greenwich Street, aka Two World Trade Center, making the media rounds. Now, the New York Post’s Steve Cuozzo has reported that Deutsche Bank may be returning to the WTC, with the firm possibly set to lease 1.3 million square feet of space within the site’s last unbuilt supertall.

Approval Granted For Six-Story, 77-Unit Residential Project At 1 Dekalb Avenue, White Plains

The White Plains Common Council has approved the six-story, 77-unit residential building proposed at 1 Dekalb Avenue, located on the corner of Maple Avenue in downtown White Plains. The project’s apartments will be rentals, of which 22 percent, or 17 units, will rent at below-market rates to families making 80 percent of the Area Median Income, the Journal News reported. There will also be a 10,000-square-foot public green space and a two-story, 103-car underground parking garage.


211 West 28th Street

Foundation Work Underway on 14-Story, 37-Unit Supportive Housing Project at 211 West 28th Street, Chelsea

Foundation work is underway on the 14-story, 37-unit residential building under development at 211 West 28th Street, in Chelsea. Progress on construction can be seen thanks to a photo posted to the YIMBY Forums. The building will contain 24,563 square feet of residential space, which means its units should average 664 square feet apiece. All of the apartments will be designated as supportive housing. Arker Companies and the Chelsea Leaf South Housing Development Fund Corporation are the developers. Aufgang Architects is behind the design. A target completion date is unknown.
